What is the difference between a patent and a utility model?

A patent protects inventions that are new, involve an inventive step, and have industrial application. Generally, they cover complex innovations. Utility models, on the other hand, protect practical improvements to existing products or processes and have less stringent novelty requirements, making them more suitable for smaller-scale innovations. The duration of protection is also shorter for utility models.
